Year 12 Retreat

Due to the current pandemic and associated restrictions regarding group gatherings in public spaces and external venues, the Year 12 retreat took on a very different, unique form than that experienced in previous years. Initially postponed, dedicated planning for the event continued and emerged as a day of reflection and communal bonding amongst my year group. While not an overnight stay in a location external to the school, it successfully maintained the reverence and lively atmosphere which has been characteristic of all prior retreats in my high school experience.

The day consisted of a variety of activities which allowed the girls to fully immerse themselves in a reflection of the year we have been through to date, our future directions, and the value of the present moment amongst each other’s company. Listening to each other and sharing our own ideas, perspectives and experiences, my understanding of and connection to the girls in my grade has deepened – a reminder that there is always more to share and learn.

Highlights of the day brought a communal viewing of the wonderful movie, Blood Brother; a heart-warming session in which we wrote messages of affirmation to each another; and liturgy sessions by which we were granted the space and time to simply reflect and express our gratitude to each other.

Dinner provided, it was a lovely way to finish, winding down and relaxing with friends. Throughout the entirety of the day, the commitment of the school staff and the catering of the event was well-evident, with careful planning ensuring the day was carried out with safe precaution, each meal individually packaged. On behalf of Year 12, I would like to thank all involved for their committed efforts in making this day a reality. While not in its original form, it was a wonderful day nonetheless and we are very grateful to have been given the opportunity to engage in our last retreat of our high school journey.

More than anything, this retreat was a lovely gathering of the Year 12 class of 2020, encapsulating six years of wonderful memories and shared experiences. Thank you all.
