History Club's 180th Display

In the first half of 2020, the History Club focused on creating its historical display on the 180 years of the College. Students went through the school archives and selected primary sources to put on the display. An antique slate, a Victorian brass school bell and some original ink wells were purchased for the display from the proceeds of the History Club’s prize money for the Anzac Day School’s Award in 2019. The display case outside H11 (used last year for the Anzac nurses display) is divided into 8 sections – 1840, 1887, 1890s-1920s, 1930s-1940s,1950s-1960s, 1970s, 1980s-1990s and 2000s to present. Mrs Lucette Zapirain has again been most generous with her time and created miniature replica doll sized uniforms of St Patrick’s College through the years. Historical photographs were used to ascertain the different uniforms that were worn. Mrs Joanne Cavallin, our College Archivist, has been a great support to the students throughout the process.

A vast collection of historical photographs was collected and laminated by the History Club and featured on the walls around the display. The students had been working since last year on creating the large numbers ‘1840-2020’ covered in historical photos of the College. These are displayed in the MSC and are surrounded by small shamrocks representing the 180 years. Every student in the College created in homeroom either a shamrock with world historical events or school events or a celtic cross to decorate the MSC for what was to be our St Patrick’s Day Assembly. Unfortunately, the Covid situation prevented this event from happening, however, we have left the 1840-2020 up for the remainder of the year.

We were fortunate in July to have a visit from the local state member, Greg Warren MP, and Mr Jeff McGill, local historian and former editor of The Macarthur Advertiser to view the display. This also gave Mr Warren an opportunity to present Jeff with a Community Service Award for his work in the Campbelltown community.
